FAQ » What is Sedation Dentistry?

What is sedation dentistry?

Once you have experienced sedation dentistry, you will probably never fear going to the dentist again.

If you have a great deal of anxiety about going to the dentist, sedation dentistry could be right for you.  Dr. Sorenson is a leading sedation dentist in Midlothian, and is well-trained and experienced in sedation dentistry. He has provided safe oral sedation techniques to his patients for over 20 years.

You will be sedated just enough to be completely relaxed and unaware of the treatment. When you wake up, you will feel refreshed, with little or no memory of what was accomplished.  In addition, Dr. Sorenson and his staff will be able to do years of dental treatments in just one or two visits.

Dr. Sorenson and his team are capable of handling many dental needs. They can replace crowns or dentures, restore sore gums to good health, whiten yellow or stained teeth, fix chipped teeth, place and restore implants, and more.

People with very busy schedules or anxiety can get the dental care they need both quickly and easily.  Imagine being able to smile again with confidence and chew your food without pain.  No wonder so many patients say: “Thank you, Dr. Sorenson.  Sedation dentistry changed my life.”

How does sedation dentistry work?

In most cases, you will be given a small pill the night before your dental appointment to help you get a good night sleep.  The following morning, you will take your first dose of sedation medication before you even leave home.  Your compani o n will need to drive you to the office.  When you arrive to our office, you may already feel drowsy and ready to fall asleep.  You will be escorted into a comfortable room, covered with a thick, warm blanket, and placed on a monitor to watch youagaiL r vital signs throughout your procedure.  You will then be given a combination of sedation medications decided upon by Dr. Sorenson and your medical doctor.  Our doctors and experienced clinical team will then take care of your dental needs.&nbsong>l p; Once your treatment is completed, your companion will return to receive post operative instructions and then accompany you home to relax for the remainder of the day.
